"Rothschild Bird" - a Summer Luncheon
Herend's Rothschild Bird pattern was our wedding china, and I still love it as much as when I first received it, 25+ years ago. I thought it would be fun to do four posts with this china - one for each season. Summer is first!
My Rothschild Bird salt and pepper cellar was a gift from my husband.
Sterling silver quail salt and pepper shakers - another gift from my husband.
I love the shadows created by the openwork baskets, with the sun shining through at a September early morning angle.
A dinner plate, above, and dinner with salad, below.
Antique cut crystal wine glasses have a floral and vine motif.
Antique cutwork napkins and antique faux-ivory handled silver forks and knives with beautiful etching.
The back of the large tureen is as lovely as the front.
I hope you enjoy looking at this summer setting as much as I have enjoyed putting it together. I'm already thinking about the autumn setting, coming soon!
Bon Appetit!

This is fantastic. I love the moss! All you bird dishes are set off beautifully!
ReplyDeleteStunning. Simply stunning. The use of the moss everywhere is extremely creative. I know some people who would covet this table setting!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous china. That covered dish is just amazing. I am so surprised that you would pick something so elegant 25 plus years ago - I know I wouldn't have. I am so glad I didn't get the china I was looking at when I got married - I would hate it now.
ReplyDeleteThe moss is just gorgeous. I may have to try that. So pretty and it sets the mood for this lovely china.
This was total eye candy!
Jacqueline - the even more amazing thing is that I loved this china from about 7th grade on! The woman I babysat for, across the street from us, had this and I knew it was what I wanted. She had the big tureen, which she always kept in the middle of her dining room table, and I think it was the bird on top that made me fall for the pattern.
ReplyDeleteLove your china pattern. I'm not crazy about my pattern anymore either. I do still love the Christofle silver though. You noticed the knife! Thanks for stopping.
ReplyDeleteBe still my heart! I am so in love with this pattern & table, bird lover that I am~ your shadows are WONDERFUL! You should link this post to Hey Harriet for Shadow Shot Sunday :-)

I think all of us would love to dine at this exceptional table! Thanks for a wonderful Tablescape Thursday!
ReplyDeleteSigh! SO gorgeous! How wonderful to have so many "special" pieces of this lovely pattern! Your summer table looks fabulous, and that green moss really sets off the pattern perfectly! Can't wait for the next season!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bird lover and your table is something to sing about! What a lovely collection of dishes. I'm sure they brighten each day!
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful! I just love your china. I can see that it would be very versatile. The mossy, natural setting looks so beautiful. I look forward to seeing the rest of the seasons.
ReplyDeleteWOW!! Amazing! I'd love to try the moss matts and scatterings at Easter.
ReplyDeleteI always love this china when I see it and wish I had chosen it 30 years ago when we were married--but even then it was tres $$$$. It is breathtaking and I hope you enjoy it often! Linda
ReplyDeleteS.T.U.N.N.I.N.G., there is no other word!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the china! And those moss placemats are fantastic! The setting is gorgeous, the glasses are awesome. I agree with Mimi and all the others. I don't think there are any adjetives left. I am so looking forward to your "4 Seasons!"
ReplyDeleteHave to agree with Mimi. Absolutely stunning. I can see how you treasure it today as yesterday.
ReplyDeleteRothschilds Bird is always breath taking. The moss is a genius choice for a background. Thank you for sharing your charming design. Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteThat is quite the set of place mats you have there. I would be worried the local birds would be grabbing it and flying off to their nests.
ReplyDeleteThe dishes are elegant but the table says fun, fun, fun.
